Album Cover For Prelim Band - Jane Doe

We chose to use the lead singer on the front cover to portray the bands real selling point which is by far and away their lead singer and backing singers. We thought that by using the lead singer it would emphasise the talent that they have. We also used black and white, with a sort of retro picture so that it would appeal to fans of people such as Paloma Faith and Amy Winehouse who are in the same genre as this band.

How does the music video you have chosen sell its artist to the audience and what image is being presented?

In the music video that I have chosen, both the artist and the image that is presented is that of a piss take, this could be argued however that this is how the band would like to be seen, as the jokers of the new pop punk scene.
Firstly image, although at the beginning of the video, the manager of the band is talking about their image with their music video and how he feels they should be seen, this is completely the opposite to what we are seeing. We are shown a band that is poking fun at artists who have been used for ‘product placement’; this again gives us the idea of this band being the jokers of the pop punk scene and them being different from many other bands and pop stars that are under management of a large record company. However within these snippets of the band making fun of other popular bands and popular TV shows around the world at the moment, we see the real band which is selling the serious side of the group to the artist. This is going hand in hand with the joker attitude that they are portraying in the rest of the video.
Secondly, in the video they are taking the piss out of the popular TV show jersey shore, as their manager is trying to get them to sell sex to their main target audience, which is probably the same in real life as it is in the video, in-between the ages of 14-20. Within this part of the video, they are again constantly trying to sell themselves as the jokers of the music scene at the moment; this is again the same within the third and final part of the video, when they decide to poke fun at the highly successful acts of lady gaga and Katy Perry.
This whole approach of them being the funny guys of the pop punk scene is exactly what they are trying to sell to their audience. This is due to the fact that if people think they are funny, they are going to want to keep on watching their videos and buying their music due to the fact that it is feel-good and makes you laugh and smile.
