Ron Pope is an american inde/acoustic artist that has an extremely similar style to that of the song we have chosen. After two albums and two nationwide tours, ron pope decided to carry on with hs solo career. He singed his contract with Universal Republic. Ron Pope is an extremely successful solo artist and cares more about his music and lyrics rather than his image.

Proposal for a new popular music artist

name of artist : Dermot Williams

genre : indie/acoustic

star image : good looking but at the same time indie and alternative. Image not just based on his good looks but also the lyrics and music that he creates.

audience : we want to attract both males and females from the age od 16 - 25. The females in this age group we want to attract via the use of the singer/songwriters good looks and also his lyrics and songwriting ability. Whereas with the males we will use an attractive woman in the music video to pull the male audience towards the video.


choice of track : we chose this track due to the fact that it is different to what has been done before and different to what people are doing again. Our ambitions with this song are more about the lyrics rather than the image of the band/solo artist

What is a music video?

A music video is a promotional tool for the sales of a artist/band to try and market the song that is shown within the video. If the audience enjoys the music video then they are more likely to buy the track, and in a more modern day and age, even buy the video from downloading websites such as Itunes to go onto the customers ipod or mp3 player.

A music video also shows the audience what the artist/band is like and what sort of band they are which increases his/her/their fan base

This video shows the audience that they are a new age indie/punk band who see themselves as jokers and dont take themselves very seriously. Also in this video they are making fun of many of the mainstream ideas that have been released in recent times

Music videos are also extremely creative. This is shown in many different videos that tell a story throughout the time span of the video. A very good example of a narrative would be Nickelback - I'd come for you

Music videos are also used to promote an up and coming new band's album. Music videos usually now come free when people go and buy an album.

Narrative analysis of music video

This video is completely the opposite of dyers theory on 'pop stars'. This band dont seem to caere about the image that they are creating and seem to be different from the majority of many mainstream groups out in the music market at this moment in time.

This group seem to be more interesting in having fun and enjoying their music along with their listeners, rather than caring about their image which is what dyer would have suggested is the norm for many pop stars.

Another band that i am very interested in is You Me At Six as they have a good indie rock sound which goes along with my personality extremely well.

Evaluation of prelim task

Overall, i felt that the first preliminary task went very well. As it was our first time filming a live performance, everyone seemed to slot into the positions that were given extremely well. Although we only had a limited time to get a decent number of shots, the group including myself took this challenge and excelled extremely well. I was mainly directing the way in which the group and myself believed was the right way to go about the shoot and I also managed to get a substantial amount of time both directing and using the camera which has improved both my communication skills with the whole crew and my camera skills which will be extremely useful for when our main task comes around.
